In celebration of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2026 on August 4, every newborn, neonate and child at Logan Hospital received an Indigenous-authored children’s book, promoting early literacy while sharing stories that reflect Indigenous perspectives, culture, values and experiences. The books were funded by the generous donors of the Logan Hospital Fund.
Community Partnerships Manager Ellen Dann said the fund was proud to support the project.
“We were so happy to get behind this great initiative which not only helped to put books into the hands of local families and help kickstart learning journeys but also supports the careers of First Nations authors,” she said.
“We of course can’t fund these types of patient care projects for patients and their families, as well as research, equipment, staff education without every single person who choose us as their place to give as well as the incredible people who have raised funds for us. I want to thank everyone who has supported us in recent years because together we’re really starting to have an impact.”
“As the fund continues to grow from strength to strength we will continue to scale up our ability to fund wonderful staff led initiatives and projects that will improve outcomes for the residents of Logan.”
Staff at Kingston FamilyLinQ also marked National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day with a community celebration organised by Allied Health’s Siobhan Gawrych.
The event brought families and the local community together for cultural activities, storytelling and shared experiences that amplified First Nations voices.
